Ditton Park Academy designed by Scott Brownrigg has won the Innovation in Delivery Value Award at last night’s Education Estates Awards in Manchester.

The 11-18 mixed secondary school and Sixth Form represents one of the UK’s most innovative recent new build schools and the first Secondary School to use the standardised ‘kit of parts’ approach. Effectively used to unlock tight site constraints, meet low budgets and deliver real value, the highly adaptable design has enough flexibility to be reused and delivered on any site and location across the country. Exceeding expectations by building on the design and project team’s experience in designing and delivering high quality yet standardised Education facilities.

By using Scott Brownrigg and Galliford Try’s award winning ‘optimum school’ design principles, and applying it to the ESFA standard superblock design, an adaptable and flexible Education facility has been created.

Ditton Park's win reflects the successes that the practice is experiencing in pushing innovation within the education sector.

Of the win Jon James, Director responsible for the project said:

“With both Scott Brownrigg’s and Galliford Try’s experience of innovating an offsite suite of construction modules on over 26 primary schools, this approach has allowed us to unlock a number of tight site constraints. Ditton Park Academy is the first secondary school in the country to deliver this successfully. This innovative and flexible approach can be used on many sites and locations across the country in the future, with the ability to deliver real value for all while still maintaining the highest design quality”.

Of the school, Ditton Park Academy Principle, Nick Caulfield said:

“I think it is very important that you appreciate how significant you and your team have been in developing our vision into a build……… it is always fantastic work with colleagues who have the same enthusiasm and desire to provide facilities for young people which will transform their lives now and in the future”.
